Imagine yourself driving to work on a normal workday minding your own business and doing your best to get to work on time. You decide that you’d like to catch the latest stock market news along with an update on your financial portfolio. While driving, you speak into your voice-activated Telematics monitor and ask for the “latest financial market news.” The system responds back with “Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 52 points, Nasdaq is up 23 points, and S&P is up 3 points. Total portfolio value up 3 percent, would you like to buy or sell holdings?” You respond with a “no thank you” and continue driving. As you pass the local Starbucks on the way to work, your monitor beeps and sends you an instant message that Starbucks has a sale of $6.50 on a pound of Guatemala coffee. You wonder how Starbucks knows that Guatemalan is your favorite brand of coffee.

You stop and pick up a pound for yourself along with a latte. As you stroll into work, your boss sends you a hot alert on your mobile phone to remind you of the board meeting that you are to attend that morning. The previous scenario touches upon many of the services that consumers, like you and me, are already starting to experience. Telematics—location-based services, personalization, and voice-command-activated mobile services—is a very compelling way to drive the consumer to new avenues of experiencing commerce and convenience in the mobile world.
