Here are some concrete examples of the choices you will be able to make (also illustrated in Figure 7.1):

  • Listening to a message takes a long time. A relatively short message may take as long as 1–2 minutes to be read to you because, in addition to the message itself, you will have to listen to who sent it, whatpriority status it has, when it was sent, and so on. However, when you have time on your hands (when sitting in your car on your way to the office) this is a perfect way of getting updated.
  • Reading a relatively short message on a screen only takes about 5–10 seconds. We have trained ourselves to quickly look through our e-mail inbox to see which messages need to be prioritized (something that can’t be done when listening to messages). Therefore,  reading your messages will be the obvious choice when you have access to a screen.
  • Several devices will be available to you when you want to access information. You will simply choose between devices, depending on the situation you are in at any given point in time.
