Information Available to Your Employees

Most companies have content-rich intranet solutions, which normally are a goldmine for employees who need information about their company and/or its products or services. This type of information will be available to employees at all times. As a result, when employees meet a potential client, they will be able to show and describe products and services in a more informed manner.

Here are two examples that further illustrate the benefits of having information available while on the go. When a technician is working at a client’s premises, he or she will be able to answer questions concerning the number of available products, quantities, or prices right away. Corporate information will receive high priority; top management will be adamant about communicating what is happening inside the company to employees who are working outside the corporate buildings. This has traditionally been hard to achieve.

Commerce
Commerce was expected to become the major revenue generator on the Web. It has, however, largely failed; too much focus was placed on the payment part of the purchasing process instead of on supporting the process as a whole. Hence, the concept “buy, sell, or improve services.” The intention is to move from a pure purchase perspective to a perspective that encompasses the entire process; that is, obtaining information, purchasing a product or service, and delivering the chosen product or service to the customer. When using the Web—indeed, our new mobile devices—we will need to focus on the entire process, much in the same way that many corporations currently use the Web to communicate with their potential and existing clients. For example, it will be very common to provide fullservice support via the mobile device when any kind of malfunction occurs. Similarly, you may find yourself researching a movie you want to see, selecting show times, finding the nearest location, and engaging in the transaction—all from your mobile device.
