Website Flipping (the buying, refining, and selling of websites) is a way to generate money that has the advantage of being a home-based business.  It’s a good way to make money fast and easy if you are familiar with internet commerce and online search techniques.  It also has the advantage that you can learn how to do it from courses and forums online.

There are a number of online auction houses that buy and sell websites, so the mechanism of buying and selling them is straightforward.  The primary issue with a website is twofold:  traffic (how many people visit the site everyday) and monetization (how much profit does the site generate).  Some sites don’t generate profit because they were developed for informational, organizational, or social purposes.  Many profit directly via the use of various sales mechanisms like AdSense or Affiliate sales.   Sites very often provide a mixture of these services:  informational, organizational, social, and/or sales.  Since websites provide value thru these mechanisms, they are generally worth something, and can be bought and sold just like houses and cars.  The opportunity for flipping sites exists because, at any  point in time, there are websites for sale that are underpriced, can be easily modified to increase traffic or monetization, or can simply be purchased for the buyers use.   Websites are also flipped because of the time (from weeks to years) it takes to develop one.  Some people have more time than money (or vice versa), so buying or selling one can be a help either way.

This is a field that requires knowledge of website structure, traffic, and monetization.  You wouldn’t want to just start buying and selling.   There is a great deal on the internet about this subject, so most of it can be learned from online resources.  If this is of interest, start reading, get training online, join forums to learn from others, and plunge in when you are comfortable with it.
