It is nice to go back to the good old times and that is what Amy did as she sat on one of her children’s bunk beds. It was all about the long lost American car tradition. Here is what she had to say about it.

There was clearly a time, that was not that long ago, when whatever you saw on the highways of America were American-made vehicles. Even so, a lot of the new generation of car buyers are buying foreign-made vehicles and not even thinking about getting an American-made one. Factors started to change for better when Daimler-Benz purchased the Chrysler company.

A short while ago, most of the vehicles that the American car companies launched were being manufactured in other countries. Even though these companies started in the United States, they are now multi-national corporations whose only goal is to make money without even having any allegiance to one country. The traditional days have left and don’t anticipate them to return. Despite the layoffs and cost-cutting in the U.S. Automotive industry, you’ll still find some of the American spirit alive in some cars.

Much like the nation itself, the car industry has grown to be truly multi-cultural and foreign-made cars continue to garner buzz. Having said that, does it have the same character as a truly American car to someone who is born and raised in this country? Many of the Japanese automobiles can go a lot faster, and will last longer than a lot of American cars, but do any of them have the style or grace of a corvette or a Viper. Past generations of Americans experienced dreams that were fashioned by the American muscle cars, and their hot styling, their power, as well as their speed and luxury. The American vehicle did very well when America was thought to be the greatest nation in the world. This had been a time well before fuel-efficient compact foreign cars replaced the all-American gas-guzzling road hogs.

If you’re able to remember the American sports vehicle of the past, maybe you ought to get one of those stylish cars, rather than the slick machines of today with their computer controls. The American cars that were built in the fifties and sixties were solidly built with a steel chassis. In those days, the big, large and solid vehicles seemed to give you a lot of protection compared to the compact, lightweight cars of today. You can no longer have those vehicles due to concerns over the environment and high fuel costs. They may be collector’s items, however you can still see some of them on the road today, bringing back memories of a bored out V8 engine under the hood.

Life is about making changes and moving forward. However, there can be occasions that you want to take hold of the past like the first car you owned or the car you once dreamed about. Then you can also get to ask yourself if a real American car would have been as a one way car rental from Los Angeles.
